Gallery of Portraits: Wu Zetian, the Chinese Empress meets Cornelius the Great

These are trays for special occasions and for lavish receptions. They were created by Rachel Convers from Ibride. From the imaginative universe of Rachel, a mysterious bestiary emerges: an aristocratic and eccentric dynasty. Severe looking fowl, elegant deers, feathered duchesses, or horned dignitaries invade service trays. These legendary figures, adorned with amazing fabrics of velvet, damask or starched ruffs, hang on the walls of our drawing rooms, like a gallery of famous ancestors. Each season, the family tree will sprout new descendants and new stories...

La Maison Champs-Elysees by Maison Martin Margiela

The origin of the building of 8 rue Jean Goujon is the essence of a French Maison ( traditional house). In 1864, the Duchess of Rivoli, Princess of Essling, Great Mistress of the House of Empress Eugenie purchased the land to have her house conceived by French architect Jules Pellechet. The masterpiece was completed in 1866 in the purest classical Parisian style," hausmannien." The property was later bought by the Association of the Centraliens to welcome the activities of the alumni association of the Paris Ecole Centrale.
In 1969, La Maison des Centraliens has been enlarged to become a hotel.

In 2010, La Maison Champs Elysees commissioned Maison Martin Margiela to redesign and reconceive a big part of the hotel. For its first hotel project in Paris, Maison Martin Margiela creates a theatrical environment where realty and trompe-l'oeil are mixing together. The results are several sets with intertwined references giving an atypical ambiance harmoniously opposing past and present.

"Together with Maison Martin Margiela, we are aiming at a luxurious yet relaxed place where minimalism of forms is matched with amazing details," says Bernadette Chevalier, president of Exclusive Hotels for Maison Champs-Elysees.

Andree Putman: The Ambassador of French Style

The first retrospective in France of the work of the design diva Andree Putman, is currently on view at the Hotel de Ville, Paris. The exhibition features copies of furniture, and re-creations of rooms that she designed such as the famous bathrooms at the Morgans Hotel in New York, the interior refurbishment of Concorde and many other places.

Born in 1925, Andree Putman career spans more than 4 decades and she was designated "Above taste" by the German publication Süddeutsche Zeitung. In the 1980s, she rediscovered several major designers- Eileen Gray, Robert Mallet-Stevens, Mariano Fortuny- and launched the company Ecart International to manufacture and market these modern classics. At the same time, Mme. Putman invented the "Boutique Hotel" for Ian Schrager with Morgans in New York and then the Wasserturm in Cologne and Pershing Hall in Paris.

Eclectic projects have ranged from the Fine Arts Museum of Rouen to the CAPC in Bordeaux, from the movie sets for Peter Greenaway to the Concorde for Air France. Recent work in product design include an important silverware and jewelry collection with Christofle, a champagne cooler for Veuve Clicquot and an ultimate evolution of the legendary Steamer Bag from Louis Vuitton.

Simplicity, elegance and the use of black and white (her famous chequerboard designs were a huge success in 1984) is found in both old and recent works.
