Romy Schneider; A Tribute to an Unforgettable Actress

After a first exhibition dedicated to the Brigitte Bardot myth, Espace Landowski - Boulogne-Billancourt welcomes a new exhibition about one of the biggest legends of cinema: Romy Schneider.

Romy Schneider was a fascinating actress due to her fragility and determination. This exhibition built on a chronological basis, plunges visitors deep into the life and career of the actress, who by the late 1950s no longer wanted to be Sissi, and by the 1970s was a celebrated star of French cinema.

The Austrian-born German actress bemoaned her roles in Germany and went to Paris to play women who did justice to her acting abilities and expectations. She settled in France at the beginning of the 1970s, where she advanced to be one of the biggest stars of French cinema. She won several awards and made films with nearly all the great directors and actors of that period. Romy Schneider died in Paris in May 1982.

The exhibit will present new documents, numerous photographs, press images, original posters, film stills, personal objects and costumes. Viewers will be immersed in the fate of an exceptional woman through correspondence and fan souvenirs that reflect the cult worship that Romy Schneider inspired from an early age and as well as the role she played in the Franco-German reconciliation.

Meet " Les Dandys," a literary concept

" Amidst the amazing territory of refinement defined and created by Ibride, objects are in league with each other, whisper their presence and share with us the desire for the unique and the extraordinary."

The Ibride design studio was originally conceived by Rachel and Benoit Convers, and became a reality with the close collaboration of Carine Jannin. Since 1996, the trio has created several small collections that can be qualified as "author design."

In its latest collection " Secrets..." Ibride teases our senses and plays with our judgements. The series of bookcases connect us to a make-believe world. Hidden beneath portraits of Dandy - Rastignac, Edmond Dantes and Bel Ami - are small shelves designed to store our favorite books.

In this collection inspired by the imaginary world of Balzac, Dumas, Maupassant, de Vigny and Flaubert, Rachel and Benoit Convers, the design team pay tribute to the theme of Secrecy. The Ibride design collection infuses a secret life to its objects, thus instilling a fairy tale atmosphere to our homes.

" Secrets " was previewed in January 2011 in Paris, and will also be presented at Salon Maison & Objet in September.

Vestiaire de Divas or the Diva's dressing room

Vestiaire de Divas: De Maria Callas a Dalida. The Diva's dressing room: From Maria Callas to Dalida.

The Centre National du Costume de Scene (National Theatrical Costume Center) is paying homage to the Diva, that prima donna endowed with a magnetic aura and exercising fascination over her audience, via an exhibition entitled Vestiaire de Divas (The Diva's dressing room), through December 31, 2010 in Moulins, France.
The Centre National du Costume de Scène(CNCS)  was established in 2006 with the mission of preserving and exhibiting costumes from the performing arts in France. The costumes in the permanent collection — donated by the Bibliothèque Nationale, the Comédie-Française, and Paris’s National Opera — span the second half of the 19th century all the way to the early 2000s. In order to protect the fabrics, the collection is not on permanent display, but the CNCS organizes three exhibitions a year.

For Romans, then for Italians, the "Diva" was originally a "goddess". At the dawn of the 20th century, she became mortal in the form of an opera singer whose talent, virtuosity and personality combine to form a truly explosive blend, nurturing unparalleled success and popularity.
Vestiaire de Divas, a beautiful exhibition, displays an array of costumes, dresses, jewelry and accessories from the 19th and 20th century, wore by true myths such as, Maria Callas, Sarah Bernhardt, Edith Piaf, Dalida and Edwige Feuillere among them.

L'Ile aux Oiseaux or Bird Island

Inspiration of the moment. L'Ile aux Oiseaux is not the latest scoop but this restful oasis is definitely worth reviewing.

I am ready to hop on a plane and immerse myself in this environment of rare beauty. The "Ile aux Oiseaux" is a magnificent suite designed by Martin Margiela, the Belgian fashion house designer for Maison Martin Margiela. The suite is part of "Les Sources de Caudalie", the 1st Vinotherapie spa retreat in the world. Near Bordeaux, the luxury boutique hotel is nestled among vineyards and forest on the ancient estate of Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte.
This superb suite Ile aux Oiseaux is reserved for nature lovers. It sits apart from the hotel in an idyllic stilt-mounted cabin. The suite's decor is classic Margiela, with its minimalist palette of white, black  and grey tones, trompe l'oeil playfulness, and a splash of red in the form of a giant pair of lips, a replica of Salvador Dali's classic Mae West sofa.
