Ode to Voluptuous Vogue

Big Gurl with the Tattoo by Brockelle Nelson

They say you're too fat to be tattooed
The permanent ink on your bare skin
would look like spray paint stained
on living atrocities
modern day tragedy
excuse me, but aint i entitled to a life
of self indulgent creative expression
sure i'll regret it later
but my life goes like
eat first, count the consequences later
so i will dive in to artistic sketches
and sleeve ideas
i will cover my bellies and jellies
with many simple sayings and robust images
wrap my flabby arms with caricatures
of beef jerky
for sakes sake i might get EAT ME
tattooed on my thick, wide, vericose ass
who says i cannot participate in my dreams
i am the master of my abilities
just ink me

Today we're all on diets...trying to impress the world; while mentally struggling with ourselves to be something that we know we are NOT....Skinny! We want to look like the models in VOGUE Magazine, but at what cost? Anorexia is the 3rd most common chronic illness among adolescents, and 95% of those who have eating disorders are between the ages of 12 & 25. That size two model is an illusion created by Photoshop and starvation, so why are we hating ourselves to create an image that isn't even real? We all cannot be a size two, so if your a big girl get that tattoo, dress fly, and love yourself because who else will?

Fashion is not skinny, fashion is style paired with impeccable garments!
Brockelle says that, "Fat Women are what we are, daring and fat. There's nothing in wrong in being you and in the mean time celebrating your beauty. Plus Size Fashion isn't simply "clothes for big girls", it's our poetry, it's our humanity, it's here to say "yes we're here too, deal with it." Simply, it's all of that and a truck of scales."
Things are beautiful if you love them. So, girls embrace what you were blessed with; show off your hips, your breast & your thighs. Being VOGUE has no measurement.

"The greatest crime of a fat woman is that she dares to take up space
so no need to be less of what i am there's not a morsel left on my plate"
-- Brockelle Nelson

Vogue Note: I love that Brockelle acknowledges who she is and embraces it. Check out more of her wonderful poems on http://hisfavoriteletterbe.blogspot.com

D'Mor: No style; No fashion! Its that simple.
